Automobile Shredders

Wendt Corporation (Tonawanda, NY) recently introduced the next generation of automobile shredders. The new HEAVY™ Shredder equipment includes the 82 HEAVY™, 106 HEAVY™, and the largest shredder a 130 HEAVY™.

The 82, 106 and 130 HEAVY™ Shredder line creates a new sizing standard within the industry based on the ideal relationship between Hammer Size and available motor RPM. All three HEAVY™ shredders measure 115 inches wide inside the shredder walls and have a free flowing 97 inches of working width inside both the Feed Chute and Hammer Swing and feature more robust construction, fully beveled welds and interlocking fabrication.

The focal point of this new line is the uniquely designed, state of the art, 4 arm Spider Rotor. The Spider Rotor features free swinging 5 ½” wide hammers, fully capped spiders and end discs to protect the rotor from wear and utilizes 2 pin position hammers with lay-back and free swinging or optional all free swinging design. Customers consistently exceed 1.5 million tons of shredded ferrous on our 120” spider rotors.

The Wendt 130 Heavy™ Shredder greatly broadens the range of feed material that can be shredded. Traditional shearing grades can now be routinely shredded in the Wendt 130 Heavy™ Shredder and it can process a wider variety of materials including #2 bundles and even certain industrial grades.

Typical shredders feed materials tangentially into the hammer circle. Wendt Heavy Shredders feed materials aggressively into the hammer circle concentrating the shearing forces on the material by reducing the shear zone. Self supporting grates have been commonly adopted as an industry standard. Manganese grates “grow” with usage and frequently
have to be cut out. Wendt Heavy Shredders improved the grate design by:

  • Increasing the grate clearance allowing grates to be easily removed and re-used.
  • Supporting the grates directly with the shredder base plate.

in delivered impact force of a hammer as hammer weight, hammer speed and swing diameter are increased.

The Wendt 130 Heavy™ Shredder is another example of our commitment to value. The turnkey capital investment cost of a Wendt 130 Heavy™ Shredder is only incrementally higher than a typical 98 x 104 shredder. The significant production capacity increase of the Wendt 130 Heavy™ Shredder means depreciation and conversion cost per ton of finished product are significantly reduced.
